Types of rubber sheets

SBR rubber sheets

SBR rubber sheets are made from styrene-butadiene rubber and offer high strength and good resistance to abrasion and mechanical damage. They are intended mainly for indoor use in chemically neutral environments, because they are not resistant to UV radiation, oils or greases. They are an economical choice in construction, logistics and transport, and on workbenches and conveyor belts. They are available in rolls and sheets 1–1.6 m wide and 1 to 50 mm thick.

NBR rubber sheets

NBR rubber sheets are made from nitrile-butadiene rubber and are more resistant to oils than SBR sheets. The right grade depends on how aggressive the oil is and how long the sheet will be in contact with it, so we recommend testing a sample in the target environment. These sheets work very well on workbenches and as pads or bumpers wherever contact with oil is likely. The range includes black SCP Select and Zenith sheets, 1 to 20 mm thick and 1–1.2 m wide.

EPDM rubber sheets

EPDM rubber sheets are made from ethylene-propylene rubber and are more resistant than SBR sheets to UV radiation and to diluted acids and alkalis. They are not resistant to oils. Their durability depends on the elastomer content, the exposure time and how aggressive the chemicals are. They are designed for outdoor use and for places where the rubber may come into contact with chemicals, but we recommend testing their resistance in the target environment. The range includes black SCP Select and Zenith sheets, 1 to 20 mm thick and 1–1.2 m wide.

CR sheets

CR rubber sheets are made from neoprene, also called chloroprene rubber. They stand out for their very high resistance to weathering, ozone and UV radiation. They also offer improved resistance to fire, chemicals, oils, greases and diluted acids and alkalis, so they are widely used in the power, shipbuilding and construction industries. They are homogeneous sheets, smooth on both sides, 1 to 6 mm thick and 1.2 m wide, and they make durable rubber surfaces for demanding environments. CR sheets also resist heat ageing well, which gives them a long service life.

NR sheets

NR rubber sheets are made from natural rubber. Their key properties are high mechanical strength and excellent resistance to abrasion and tearing. They are not resistant to UV radiation, oils or greases, so they work best where they will not be exposed to these factors. They come in several colours, including black, red, grey and yellow, and in thicknesses from 2 to 30 mm. NR sheets are flexible, easy to clean, absorb shocks well and reduce vibration. This makes them an ideal choice for sports facilities, industrial plants and agriculture.

Uses of rubber sheets

Rubber sheets have a wide range of properties, so they are used successfully in many sectors. They are most often used:

• In industry: as a protective material at workstations, loading areas, production halls and warehouses.

• In workshops: suitable grades resist oils, greases and other chemicals.

• In agriculture: they are easy to clean, so they can be used in stables and animal pens.

• In transport: as linings in trucks and containers.

• In construction: they protect against moisture and cover work surfaces.

• At home: as rubber sheets for terraces and balconies, and in boiler rooms and basements.
