EPDM Rubber Sheets with Fabric Inserts
In industrial terminology, EPDM rubber sheets with fabric inserts are known as reinforced acid-resistant rubber sheets. These are standard EPDM sheets additionally strengthened with a cotton mesh embedded inside the rubber.
The cotton fabric layer enhances the physical and mechanical properties of the material and, most importantly, prevents deformation and waviness of the rubber sheet. Various types of reinforcement fabrics exist on the market, with cotton and nylon being the most common. In the case of SCP’s EPDM sheets, the reinforcement always consists of woven cotton mesh. SCP offers EPDM rubber sheets with single or double cotton fabric inserts.
Produced through the vulcanization of ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, these sheets retain all the excellent qualities of standard EPDM material – resistance to weathering, ozone, UV radiation, hot water, and steam.
SCP’s EPDM fabric-reinforced sheets are available in thicknesses from 2 to 10 mm, supplied in rolls with a standard width of 1.2 m.
EPDM rubber is distinguished by its resistance to ageing, UV, and ozone, making these reinforced sheets particularly recommended for outdoor use and operation in changing weather conditions.
Thanks to their versatile physicochemical properties, EPDM rubbers are widely used across numerous industries, including construction – for roof and terrace sealing, gasket production, and insulation materials. In water and heating installations – due to their resistance to hot water and steam and agriculture and horticulture – as durable and flexible rubber sealing and protective material for outdoor environments.
They are also used as components for agricultural machinery and municipal equipment, where resistance to both chemical agents (acids and alkalis) and outdoor exposure is required.
EPDM rubber sheets are flexible and easy to process, allowing easy cutting and shaping with standard utility tools.
Application Conditions and Limitations
The abrasion resistance and mechanical durability of EPDM sheets are comparable to SBR and NBR materials. In addition, these sheets offer increased resistance to acids, alkalis, alcohol, boiling water, and steam. However, EPDM is not suitable for contact with mineral oils or greases – in such environments, NBR remains the more appropriate material choice.
EPDM sheets maintain stable properties within a wide temperature range of –20°C to +70°C, which is comparable to traditional general-purpose rubbers such as SBR and oil-resistant NBR.
