Applications of NR rubber sheets

NR rubber sheets made from natural rubber are the right choice wherever high elasticity must be combined with excellent abrasion and impact resistance. They are most commonly used in:

Bulk material handling systems – as linings for chutes, hoppers, drums and bunker walls, protecting steel and concrete against material erosion.
Mining and heavy industry – as wear-protection plates, impact-absorbing elements and protective linings for critical machine zones.
Under machinery and equipment – as protective and sound-dampening pads that reduce noise and vibration transmitted into steel structures and concrete floors.
Further fabrication – as base material for cutting gaskets, pads, spacers, covers, strips and customised wear plates.
Technical and sports facilities – as cushioning, anti-slip sheets in areas exposed to intensive impact loads.

Types of NR sheets:

SCP’s portfolio includes NR rubber sheets in several compound and thickness variants, allowing the product to be matched to specific operating conditions. The most common options include:

General-purpose NR sheets – natural rubber with high elasticity, very good tensile strength and high elongation at break, intended for use in environments without contact with oils and aggressive chemicals.
High-abrasion NR sheets – natural rubber compounds engineered for severe wear conditions, e.g. in mining, aggregate handling, steelworks and internal transport systems.
NR/SBR blend sheets – a solution that combines the resilience of natural rubber with the cost-effectiveness of SBR, used for linings, dampers and protective components in general industrial applications.

Application conditions and limitations

NR sheets are designed to operate in environments free of petroleum-based products – natural rubber is not resistant to oils, fuels or most petroleum derivatives, so NBR sheets or special compounds must be used in such cases. Despite their excellent mechanical properties, NR compounds have limited resistance to high temperatures and aggressive chemical media such as concentrated acids and alkalis; compatibility should always be checked in the technical data sheet and verified by testing under actual operating conditions. Natural rubber is sensitive to atmospheric ageing, which is why NR sheets should not be exposed to long-term UV radiation and ozone – for outdoor or weather-exposed applications, EPDM sheets or suitable special compounds are the better option.
