Zenith NR rubber sheets
Zenith NR rubber sheets are flexible sheets based on natural rubber, designed for industrial applications that require high abrasion resistance, very good mechanical strength and resilience. They combine high tensile strength, large elongation at break and excellent adhesion to substrates, which makes NR sheets suitable both as a construction material and as working linings exposed to intensive wear.
Within the SCP range, Zenith NR rubber sheets are available in rolls with industry-standard widths (including 1.2 m, 1.4 m and even 2 m) and a standard length of 10 m, which makes it easy to match the format to production lines, conveyors, chutes and workstations. The natural rubber used by Zenith is characterised by low density, high elasticity and very good adhesion, so NR sheets sit firmly on the substrate and can be used as underlays that absorb impacts and vibrations. Typical hardness values for Zenith NR compounds range from approx. 40 to 60 Shore A, with tensile strength from around 12 MPa up to as much as 25 MPa and elongation at break reaching up to 900%, placing these sheets in the industrial-quality segment with enhanced mechanical performance. The usual service temperature range for most Zenith NR sheets intended for general industrial applications is approximately -40°C to +70°C; for boundary applications, the exact limits for a specific NR grade should always be verified in its technical data sheet.
Owing to their very good abrasion resistance combined with high elasticity, NR rubber sheets are widely used as wear- and impact-protection linings in bulk material handling systems and transfer points. They are used, among others, as linings for chutes, hoppers, drums and bunker walls, as well as protective elements for critical machine zones exposed to material erosion. NR sheets are also used as protective and sound-dampening pads under machinery, as support mats in loading and storage zones, and as components whose role is to reduce noise and vibration while protecting steel or concrete structures against mechanical damage. Depending on the selected Zenith compound (for example high-abrasion grades or NR/SBR blends), NR sheets can be used as a base material for further conversion – cutting gaskets, spacers, guards and specialised wear plates.
Application conditions and limitations
Natural rubber is not resistant to mineral oils, fuels and most petroleum-based products – in such environments, NBR sheets or appropriate special compounds are recommended. NR sheets should also not be used for prolonged periods in contact with aggressive chemical media such as concentrated acids or alkalis, or in applications requiring elevated thermal resistance above the upper limit of the typical operating range for natural rubber compounds. As natural rubber is sensitive to atmospheric ageing, prolonged exposure of NR sheets to direct UV radiation and ozone should be avoided; for outdoor or weather-exposed applications, EPDM or appropriately selected special compounds are the better choice. Before using any specific Zenith NR grade in critical applications – especially at elevated temperatures, under high mechanical loads or in contact with chemical media – it is recommended to always check the parameters in the technical data sheet and to carry out a trial under real operating conditions.
