CR Rubber Sheets (Chloroprene)
In industrial terminology, CR rubber sheets are known as chloroprene or neoprene rubber. They are produced through the vulcanization of chloroprene rubber (CR) -- a synthetic material recognized for its enhanced resistance to atmospheric factors, ozone, UV radiation, and diluted acids and alkalis. Unlike general-purpose SBR rubber sheets, CR combines characteristics of NBR sheets (moderate oil resistance) and EPDM (weather resistance), making it a versatile material for both outdoor and indoor applications.
SCP offers CR rubber sheets in thicknesses ranging from 1 to 6 mm, supplied in rolls 1.2 meters wide.
CR sheets are successfully used wherever simultaneous resistance to atmospheric conditions and moderate oil and grease resistance is required. They are commonly applied as construction material in construction, automotive, agricultural machinery, and municipal service vehicles. They are widely used for cutting seals, gaskets, spacers, covers, and for protecting surfaces exposed to external influences. Thanks to their enhanced resistance to atmospheric aging, CR sheets are used as external material on building facades, in window and door seals, and in drainage systems.
However, it should be noted that CR's resistance to petroleum-based substances is moderate and does not match NBR sheets. This material exhibits better atmospheric resistance than EPDM, which makes it frequently chosen for long-term outdoor applications. CR sheets from the SCP Select line offer an optimal balance between resistance and price, and based on our experience, they perform reliably in most standard applications. Nevertheless, we always recommend testing the material with specific substances before use, especially in critical applications or in contact with highly aggressive media.
The operating temperature range in which CR sheets maintain their mechanical stability is from -20°C to +70°C, which is similar to traditional technical materials.
Application Conditions and Limitations
CR rubber sheets exhibit enhanced resistance to atmospheric factors, ozone, and UV radiation compared to standard SBR rubber. They are resistant to diluted acids and alkalis, glycols, alcohols, and salt solutions. However, the material is not recommended for prolonged contact with strong acids and alkalis, concentrated mineral oils, or aromatic solvents. Before using in chemically aggressive environments, it is advisable to conduct a test in conditions similar to the intended environment.
