EPDM Rubber Sheets
In industrial terminology, EPDM rubber sheets are known as weather-resistant or, more informally, acid-resistant rubber. They are produced through the vulcanization of ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) – a synthetic material recognized for its excellent resistance to weathering, ozone, UV radiation, hot water, and steam.
SCP offers EPDM rubber sheets in a wide range of thicknesses – from 1 to 30 mm – in standard rolls 1.2 m wide and in 1 × 1 m sheets.
EPDM sheets are characterized by their resistance to aging, UV radiation, and ozone, making them particularly suitable for outdoor applications and operation under variable atmospheric conditions.
Thanks to their versatile physicochemical properties, EPDM rubbers are widely used across numerous industries, including construction – for roof and terrace sealing, gasket production, and insulation materials. In water and heating installations – due to their resistance to hot water and steam and agriculture and horticulture – as durable and flexible rubber sealing and protective material for outdoor environments.
EPDM rubber sheets are also commonly used as base components in agricultural and municipal service machinery, where resistance to acidic or alkaline substances and weather exposure is required.
Due to their flexibility, EPDM sheets are easy to cut and shape, allowing for quick adaptation to specific technical needs. They can be conveniently trimmed with a standard utility knife.
Application Conditions and Limitations
The abrasion and mechanical resistance of EPDM rubber sheets is comparable to that of SBR and NBR materials, while additionally offering enhanced resistance to acids, alkalis, alcohols, boiling water, and steam. Unlike NBR sheets, EPDM is not recommended for contact with mineral oils or greases – in such applications, NBR remains the preferred choice.
EPDM sheets maintain stable properties across a wide temperature range, from –20°C to +70°C, which is like traditional general-purpose materials such as SBR and oil-resistant NBR rubber sheets.
