VMQ Rubber Sheets (Silicone)

In industrial terminology, VMQ rubber sheets are known as silicone rubber. They are produced through the vulcanization of silicone rubber (VMQ) -- a synthetic material recognized for its exceptional resistance to extreme temperatures, both very high and very low. Unlike general-purpose rubber sheets, silicone retains its physical and mechanical properties across the widest temperature range of all commonly used technical rubbers.

SCP offers VMQ rubber sheets in thicknesses ranging from 1 to 6 mm, supplied in rolls 1.2 meters wide. Depending on application requirements, they are available in red, blue, and transparent variants, with FDA-certified transparent and colored versions finding particular use in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

VMQ sheets are successfully used wherever resistance to extreme temperatures, UV radiation, ozone, and excellent flexibility across a wide temperature range are required. They are commonly applied as construction material in the food, pharmaceutical, medical, and household appliance industries. Thanks to their physiological safety, silicone does not transfer tastes or odors. They are widely used for cutting high-temperature seals, gaskets, membranes, aprons, and for protecting surfaces in applications requiring cleanliness and hygiene.

However, it should be noted that VMQ sheets, despite their high thermal resistance, exhibit lower tear and puncture resistance compared to other technical rubbers. This material is relatively susceptible to cuts, and therefore is not recommended for applications requiring high resistance to mechanical damage. VMQ sheets from the SCP Select line offer an optimal balance between properties and price, and based on our experience, they perform reliably in most standard applications. Nevertheless, we always recommend testing the material under specific working conditions, especially in critical applications.

The operating temperature range in which VMQ sheets maintain their mechanical stability is from --60°C to +200°C.

Application Conditions and Limitations

VMQ rubber sheets exhibit excellent resistance to atmospheric conditions, ozone, UV radiation, and thermal aging. They are resistant to water, alcohol, and diluted solutions of acids and alkalis. The material also shows good resistance to silicone oils. However, it is not resistant to strong acids and alkalis, aromatic solvents, gasoline, or mineral oils. Before using in chemically aggressive environments, it is advisable to conduct a test in conditions similar to the intended environment.
