Butyl tape with fleece layer SB Butyl

SB Butyl is a single-sided butyl tape based on synthetic IIR rubber, equipped with a top fleece layer, designed for permanent sealing of joints in waterproofing and building finishing systems. The tape is used for sealing wall–floor junctions, corners, structural joints and service penetrations, as well as for bonding to concrete, ceramics, wood, metal and plastics. The fleece layer allows the tape to be covered directly with tile adhesive, plaster, skim coat or other mortars, so that after installation it becomes completely invisible within the finishing layers. It also works very well for joining rubber mats and floorings together, preventing the edges of the material from curling up.

Material properties

The tape core is made of a plastic butyl compound that behaves in a thermoplastic way – as the temperature rises, it becomes more plastic and tacky, while when the temperature drops, these parameters decrease accordingly. The tape is stable in contact with water and salt water within the typical range used in construction. It is not resistant to oils, greases, white spirit or other organic solvents. The technical fleece layer provides very good adhesion to construction chemicals, allowing a durable bond with subsequent system layers (adhesives, mortars, plasters). For degreasing the substrate and removing any contamination, extraction gasoline is recommended. The shelf life of the tape is up to 24 months under appropriate storage conditions.

Applications

SB Butyl tape with fleece layer is used for:

sealing wall–floor junctions in bathrooms, laundries and other wet rooms,

sealing corners, expansion joints and critical junctions in waterproofing systems,

sealing terraces, balconies and roofs under the finishing layer,

making watertight joints around pipe penetrations, drains and service ducts,

sealing connections with concrete, ceramics, wood, metal and plastics,

under-plaster and under-screed applications where the tape must be fully embedded in the finishing layer.

Thanks to the high adhesion of the butyl compound, the tape can be used on both smooth and rough surfaces.
