NBR Rubber Sheets with Fabric Inserts
In industry terminology, NBR rubber sheets with fabric inserts are known as reinforced oil-resistant rubber sheets. These standard NBR sheets are additionally strengthened with a cotton mesh layer embedded within the rubber.
The cotton insert enhances the physical and mechanical properties of the sheet and, most importantly, prevents deformation and waviness. Various types of reinforcing fabrics exist on the market, with cotton and nylon being the most common. In the case of SCP’s NBR sheets, the reinforcement always consists of a woven cotton mesh. SCP offers NBR rubber sheets with single or double cotton fabric inserts.
These sheets are produced through the vulcanization of nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) – a synthetic raw material known for its resistance to oils, fuels, and greases. In contrast to general-purpose SBR rubber, NBR is also suitable for environments where contact with petroleum-based products is possible.
Reinforced NBR sheets available from SCP come in thicknesses from 2 to 10 mm, supplied in 1.2 × 10 m rolls.
NBR fabric-reinforced rubber sheets are successfully used wherever oil, grease, and fuel resistance is required. They are widely utilized as construction material in automotive, hydraulic, pneumatic, and construction industries. They are also suitable for cutting gaskets, static seals, spacers, and for protecting workshop surfaces, even in home use.
It should be remembered that NBR’s resistance to petroleum-based substances depends on the chemical nature of the medium, exposure time, and additional environmental factors such as UV radiation or elevated temperatures. NBR sheets from the SCP Select line provide an optimal balance of performance and cost, proving effective in standard applications. Nevertheless, we recommend testing the material with specific substances before applying it in critical or high-aggressiveness conditions.
The operating temperature range in which NBR sheets retain consistent properties is similar to SBR, ranging from –20°C to +70°C.
Application Conditions and Limitations
Despite its excellent resistance to oils and greases, NBR rubber is not resistant to atmospheric factors, ozone, or UV radiation. It is therefore intended for indoor use and should not be exposed to prolonged sunlight. The material is not resistant to acids or alkalis, so a prior compatibility test under realistic conditions is recommended when used in chemically challenging environments.
