Butyltec butyl tape

Butyltec is a double-sided butyl tape based on synthetic IIR rubber, designed for permanent bonding and sealing of vapour barrier foils, roofing foils, roofing membranes, foundation foils, as well as for bonding to metal, ceramics, wood and plastics. The tape provides strong, tight and ageing-resistant joints on concrete, masonry and wooden substrates. It also works very well for joining rubber mats and floorings together. At the joint of the flooring, it is sufficient to bond the tape to the substrate and then place the floorings or mats onto its top side so that they fit tightly together.

Material properties

Butyltec behaves in a thermoplastic way – as the temperature increases, the product becomes more plastic and tacky, while with decreasing temperature these parameters are proportionally reduced. The tape is stable in contact with water and salt water in the pH range 5–9. It is not resistant to oils, greases, white spirit and other solvents. The recommended agent for cleaning the surface and any contamination is extraction gasoline. The product shelf life is up to 24 months under appropriate storage conditions.

Applications

Butyltec tape is used for:

bonding vapour barrier and roofing foils,

sealing construction and foundation foils,

joining roofing membranes with concrete, brick or wood,

making tight joints in critical areas (service penetrations, foil overlaps, roof details),

bonding to metal, ceramics and plastics,

joining rubber mats and floorings to each other.

Thanks to its high adhesion, it can be used on both smooth and rough surfaces.
