Special Rib flooring – solid rubber with reinforced profile
Special Rib SCP Select is a ribbed solid rubber flooring with a modified, deeper groove profile designed for particularly demanding technical applications. The increased height and carefully shaped ribs improve traction and substrate stability in areas with significant level differences, frequent acceleration and braking, as well as point loads from wheels, supports and machine feet. The ribbed pattern also helps channel water, mud and small debris away from the walking surface, which helps maintain anti‑slip properties even in more challenging operating conditions.
Special Rib flooring is suitable as a surface for steps, loading ramps, service platforms, drive‑on areas, service pits and traffic routes in industrial, workshop and logistics environments. Thanks to its dense, solid rubber construction, it can be used wherever standard ribbed floorings are too delicate and where better shoe grip, higher abrasion resistance and reduced risk of edge curling are required. In practice, it withstands both pedestrian traffic and moderate wheeled traffic (trolleys, tool carts), provided the substrate is properly prepared and, where needed, the flooring is bonded to the subfloor. The product is industrial‑grade, which is associated with the typical odour of vulcanised rubber, particularly noticeable immediately after unpacking; this gradually decreases over time with adequate ventilation of the room.
Application conditions and limitations
As with other SCP Select products based on SBR rubber, Special Rib is intended for use in chemically neutral environments and is not resistant to prolonged contact with oils, greases, fuels or aggressive chemical media. Continuous exposure to such substances may cause swelling, loss of elasticity and accelerated wear of the flooring; in these cases, materials with increased chemical resistance should be considered. The flooring is primarily intended for indoor use or sheltered areas – when exposed to weathering, UV radiation and ozone, the natural ageing process of rubber must be taken into account, which manifests itself as gradual hardening and loss of elasticity.
Within a typical operating temperature range of approximately -20°C to +70°C, Special Rib maintains stable basic mechanical properties. For applications close to the limits of this range, and in locations subject to high mechanical loads and frequent temperature changes, it is recommended to test a sample of the flooring under actual service conditions. In high‑traffic zones – especially with wheeled traffic – and wherever maximum surface stability is required, it is advisable to consider permanently bonding the flooring to the substrate and carefully finishing the edges (e.g. with ramp profiles) in order to increase user safety and extend the service life of the product.
